SAINT-REMI BASILICA

 SAINT-REMI BASILICA

Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, St. Remi
Basilica is a collection of history and art which should
not be missed. The 11th century Romanesque nave was
lengthened by two transepts at the end of the 12th century to render it accessible to a greater number of pilgrims. At the same time, the facade was reconstructed, while a choir ambulatory and radiating chapels were created. While the Gothic style is apparent in these transformations, they in no way altered the homogeneity and serenity of the church. It contains Saint Remi's tomb, a collection of 12th century stain-glass windows and a Cattiaux grand organ, inaugurated in the year 2000.

CASTLE OF CONDE EN BRIE

The Château de Condé is a private estate in Condé-en-Brie, Aisne, France, set in its park with three-hundred-year-old trees, on the Champagne route and 100 km from Paris.

The Château de Condé is a private estate, listed as a historic monument and inhabited year round. Its sumptuous 17th and 18th century interiors were created by the most prestigious artists (Watteau, Boucher, Oudry, Servandoni and others) at the behest of the Princes of Savoy and then the Marquis de la Faye. This château evokes part of France's history, through illustrious characters like the Condés, the Savoies, Jean de La Fontaine, Cardinal Richelieu, Mazarin, not forgetting Olympe and her suspect "powders". Highlights include the "Watteau" wing and its recently discovered frescoes, Richelieu's bed chamber, the magnificent "trompe-l'œil" effects of Servandoni, the "little private apartments" and the outstanding drawing room decorated by Oudry.

CASTLE OF DORMANS

This is one of four Great War national monuments built after 1918. Straight after the end of the conflict, it was decided to build this memorial for all the victims of this war and in thanksgiving to God. Therefore, as early as 1919, the Duchess of Estissac formed a committee comprising H.E. Cardinal Luçon, Archbishop of Reims, Monsignor Tissier, Bishop of Châlons and Marshall Foch who chose the site. According to him indeed, Dormans had been the central point of the two battles of the Marne (September 1914 and July 1918) during which the future of France was decided. A national subscription provided for the creation of this fifty-two-meter-high Monument of remembrance, which overlooks the park and its 14th, and 18th century castle, which belonged to famous names of French history.
